As part of the ongoing celebration of Noland Health Services 100th Anniversary, the Oaks on Parkwood is marking its parent organization’s elite milestone with a series of events, several of which are reminiscent of 1913, the year of Noland’s origin.
On Friday, March 8, Oaks residents turned back the clock with Vintage Photo Day. Oaks activity staff provided an array of early 1900’s style fashions & accessories for the photo shoot. Independent Living Activities Coordinator, Quena Mears scheduled individual private appointments for residents and guests to “ham it up” for the camera. “Everyone really got into the spirit, it was great to hear so much contagious laughter,” said Quena, “it was a fun day.”
Woodlands at Tannehill assisted living residents enjoyed their special day on Thursday April 11. Iva and Nelson Smith (pictured left) were especially animated participants. The Nelsons, who will celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary on May 1, teased one another throughout the photo sessions as evidenced in their photos. The fun-loving couple has resided at the Woodlands since 2012, and still love every minute of each other’s company while enjoying relaxation and entertainment at the Woodlands.
When asked for the secret to a lifelong marriage by Resident Care Coordinator, Shana Roper, Mr. Smith was quick to reply, “Do whatever the Mrs. says”; Mrs. Smith replied, “Never go to bed mad at each other”. The Smiths smiled at each other in agreement and agreed that they have led a blessed and fun life together. They also agreed in unison, “It was a great day at the Woodlands”!
Each photo session participant received vintage style sepia tone photos of their sessions.
